What Is My Favourite Drink?

Bubbles rise through the golden liquid, and condensation glistens on the ice, creating a fresh, vibrant, and refreshing presentation.

Daily writing prompt
What is your favorite drink?

If you ask me what is my favourite drink, the answer is simple and has stayed the same for a long time:

Ale of the ginger variety.

In a world full of complicated menus, custom syrups and experimental coffee creations, ginger ale remains refreshingly honest. It is familiar, comforting and uncomplicated – and sometimes, that is exactly what you want.

A tall latte-style glass filled with a vibrant green tea mocha mix, topped with whipped cream and sprinkled with mint chocolate pieces. The drink sits on a dark wooden surface, flanked by fresh mint leaves and a small pile of chocolate crumbles. Warm lighting highlights the creamy texture and playful toppings against a rich brown background.

A favourite drink that fits real life

I recently stopped in at a small, old-school café in Birkenhead North.

Not the kind of place with touch screens, loyalty apps and drinks topped with mint-chocolate foam.
This café is a quiet haven of normality.

Here, you simply order at the counter.
Coffee comes with milk.
Breakfast is breakfast.
No scanning a QR code.
No chasing Wi-Fi passwords.
No complicated choices that turn a simple drink into a performance.

And while most people order coffee, I go for what has become my favourite drink over the years:

ginger ale.

Why ginger ale is my favourite drink

There are plenty of reasons ginger ale earns its place at the top for me.

1. It’s simple and refreshing

Ginger ale does exactly what a good drink should do – refresh you.
It is light, fizzy and easy to enjoy at any time of day.

2. It feels grounded, not trendy

Unlike whatever the latest café creation happens to be, ginger ale doesn’t try to impress.
It just works.

3. It suits a quieter pace

In that small café in Birkenhead North, there were at least three conversations happening at once:

  • one about a cousin going go-karting,
  • one about the job the workmen were doing,
  • and another about the best way to get somewhere.

Work boots on the floor.
Mud on the soles.
Nobody worried about appearances.

A ginger ale fits that atmosphere perfectly.

Choosing ginger ale in a world that runs on alcohol

Later in the day, some people wander across the road to buy a few cans for the evening.
That used to be part of my routine too.

It isn’t anymore.

I have been alcohol-free for over three years now – and I can honestly say I have never felt better.

So when someone asks what my favourite drink is today, the answer matters more than it used to.

Ginger ale is not a replacement.
It is simply what I genuinely enjoy.

No alcohol.
No fuss.
No pressure.

Just a drink that lets me sit back and enjoy the noise of ordinary life around me.

My favourite drink, wherever I happen to be

Whether I’m sitting in a local café in Birkenhead North, or travelling on a train through Turin, my choice stays the same.

A cold glass.
Plenty of ice.

Final answer: what is my favourite drink?

If you are searching for a clear, honest answer to the question:

“What is your favourite drink?”

Mine is – and continues to be –

ale of the ginger variety.

Simple.
Alcohol-free.
And perfectly at home in a small café where real conversations still matter.
