As the global conversation around climate action shifts beyond COP 30 in Brazil it’s time for individuals, creators, and online voices to adopt meaningful, sustainable habits. On alisonlittle.blog, I’m committing to 10 environmental pledges designed to inspire positive change—personally, socially, and creatively. These pledges support greener living, ethical fashion, sustainable beauty, and conscious consumption.
Here are the 10 sustainability promises I’m making—and inviting you to consider and potentially adopt.
1. No more Coffee Pods while working late writing articles
Coffee pods may be convenient, but they produce enormous long-term waste. Many are made from mixed plastics and metals that are rarely recycled, contributing significantly to landfill buildup.
I’m committing to ditching coffee pods and turning instead to ground coffee, French press brewing, or reusable capsules. Better for the environment—and better for the body of work I’m producing.
If I can’t give up coffee pods altogether I will opt for Eden Project Colombian Compostable Coffee Capsules, they are fully biodegradable and have been produced using energy from renewable sources.

2. Promote brands with a positive environmental impact
As a lifestyle and sustainability blogger, I pledge to highlight only those fashion, beauty, and lifestyle brands that demonstrate real environmental responsibility—from using recycled materials to reducing water consumption to ethical sourcing.
One of my favourite companies to feature is Love Tech Hate Waste, they offer all kinds of refurbished devices and other electrical goods.
You’ll see more brand features that uplift natural resources rather than drain.

3. Stand against unrealistic beauty standards
From the absurd “Mar-a-Lago facelift” aesthetic to over-edited images dominating social media, there’s a growing pressure to conform to artificial beauty ideals.
Cosmetic surgery consumes enormous energy and resources, much of it for procedures that are unnecessary.
This blog will champion brands that celebrate natural beauty, authenticity, and self-acceptance.
4. Encourage plastic-free eating and drinking
Warm foods and beverages often come in plastic containers that can leach harmful chemicals including microplastics and generate long-term waste.
I pledge to promote plastic-free alternatives, from stainless steel lunch boxes to glass storage and biodegradable takeaway options.
It’s healthier for the planet—and for our digestive health, too.

5. Choose sustainable fitness habits to champion
Exercise shouldn’t cost the earth. Many indoor gym machines consume significant electricity. Whenever possible, I’m committing to:
- Road running over treadmills
- Outdoor cycling before stationary bikes
- Pull ups over gym based weights.

6. Put nature and hiking firmly back on the agenda
Hiking isn’t just exercise—it’s an immersive environmental experience.
When we hike through woodlands, hills, or coastline paths, we are reminded of how breathtaking our planet truly is.
Take another look at Hiking Pendle Hill from earlier in the year.
This blog will continue to promote Hiking as one of the greenest, healthiest, and happiest forms of movement.

7. Support Local Artists and Makers
Local creators often use reclaimed materials, reduce shipping emissions, and maintain a much smaller carbon footprint.
By supporting local artisans, we strengthen community, reduce waste, and create a culture of sustainability.
In September we featured several Manchester Makers based at Manchester Craft and Design Centre.
Expect features on makers and eco-friendly craft communities.
8. Choose UK-based travel over flights
Holidaying in Britain is a powerful way to reduce your environmental footprint. Flying generates enormous carbon emissions, but local travel offers beauty, culture, and adventure—right on our doorstep.
Look back at Windermere and Orrest Head article travel for inspiration. alisonlittle.blog will continue to support UK based tourist destinations.

9. Reduce Digital Waste and Over-Storage
It’s easy to forget that cloud storage and data centres consume vast amounts of energy and water.
Part of digital sustainability means:
- Deleting unused files,
- Removing duplicated media,
- Storing only what’s meaningful.

10. Promote Direct Recycling: Pre-Loved Fashion
Pre-loved clothing and refurbished electronics drastically reduce resource consumption and landfill waste.
This blog will continue to spotlight:
- Second-hand fashion
- Up-cycled pieces
- Creative ways to make recycling a lifestyle, not just a task.

Final Thoughts
These 10 pledges mark a commitment to living—and encouraging—more sustainable choices in everyday life. Whether it’s switching up your morning coffee habit, choosing UK travel, resisting artificial beauty norms, or supporting local artisans, each small step contributes to a collective environmental transformation.
