Finally, after years of speculation, and a half-hearted comeback on a rarely watched subscriber channel, we did get Gladiator back on our entertainment schedules. The Saturday tea time show of the 90s that got us screaming at our five-channel, blown glass screens.
The new show proved every bit as entertaining as the parents program two decades ago. The hulking cotton bud battles of duel and the thrill of the final sprint up the travelator. The revival also brought us the contestants we love to get behind. The ninety’s had Liverpool’s Eunice and this was matched by Sheffield’s Bronte. The crowds were going wild for this fine example of a female firefighter.
Her hometown, is the filming location for the new show. The once midlands located, shot in the shadows of Birmingham’s high rises, has moved North. Filling the gaps which the steelworks left, the local girl got the crowds up cheering.
The unusual name Bronte made us question where her name had originated. Although the Bronte’s: Charlotte and sisters lived nearby in Yorkshire Haworth the name is unusual as a first name in England. It guided you to question, where her parents Australian perhaps travelling overseas then decided to set up home calling their daughter Bronte?
She faced the wrath of the female Gladiators. The Gladiator gals measure themselves on being the most alluring and Bronte more than showed them they were not when she was on set. The show that’s renowned for recruiting females much more for their lap dancing prowess than their fitness, as the contestants choose functional and sport-appropriate wear, the Gladiators opt to flash as much flesh as possible. The 5:50 pm slot is all that stops them from flying out in ass-exposing thongs.
The cheers accelerated as she was a firewoman, performing a life-saving role, an employment option not often taken by women until recently. Imagine yourself shafted by a beam, rapidly inhaling smoke and you find Bronte by your side.
Now this is going to hurt but I’m gonna get you out!
A strong woman, a very capable woman but also a compassionate woman. Someone you could trust with your life and have every confidence in. A true beauty who triumphs in getting her hands dirty.
The class and elegance she showed through finishing second, wishing her fellow competitor well and stating how she had ‘Given it everything.’ If I’m to take my last conscious breaths in a flaming building, I hope she is there to save me, her best being good enough by far!
Bronte was my Gladiator Queen!
