The Good Samaritan it the latest project to be brought to us by the legendary Philip Hayes. He is working with other to produce and album featuring tracks from World famous bands such as the Who, looking to be released later in the year. The LP will look to break down the stigma’s associated with mental health. The album will raise money for charities which support people suffering from problems such as anxiety and depression, the Samaritans in particular.

Philip Hayes has a recent history of suffering from mental health problem’ himself, in coming forward to speak about his issues he is helping to get Men, in particular, talking about mental health. After a night of heavy drinking at an awards ceremony in 2013, there was a well-publicised incident which led the Philip suffering a breakdown in 2013. After a spell in Broad Green psychiatric hospital, he was to return home. Now jobless, he was to suffer a second more serious breakdown resulting in a longer spell in hospital. His time spent in Windsor House has been documented in one of his acclaimed colleges.

After his first breakdown Philip had a song dedicated to himself by Evil Costello when he performed Bod Dylan’ ‘Down on the Bottom’ this is to be featured on the forthcoming album. Tracks from other bands are to be from; the Zuton’s, Space, Amsterdam, the Farm and not forgetting the Who. Philip first met Pete Townsend of the Who in 1983 when he was looking to raise money for a community access recording studio later to become the Picket. On invitation, he travelled down to Pete’s studio in Twickenham and explained the were looking to offers a recording studio as an antidote to 20% unemployment and high levels of heroin that was rife in Liverpool during the early eighties. Pete offered to help set up the studio and one of the first bands to record there were La’s with their famed hit ‘There she goes’. The album is not simply to be released as a CD but also in classic 12″ vinyl as the softer sound of the medium in demand across the generations and is favoured by Philip himself.

The charities to benefit from the project are to be the Samaritans, Calm, Safe and the Belve. The Samaritan’s provide a 24-7 support for anyone suffering from mental health problems, their phone number will be prominent on the album cover. CALM ‘Campaign Against Living Miserably’ is a charity aimed at suicide prevention targeting men in particular. Based in Bootle, Safe offers various services, participatory arts in being the most relevant to the album. The Belve, based in Toxteth is a community centre close to Philip’ heart, volunteering there himself.

Philip is looking for support for his album in terms of small donations toward production, spreading the word in addition to general backing, he can be reached on:
